About the Test

Telecom network design refers to the process of planning and organizing the infrastructure and components of a telecommunications network. This includes determining the type and number of network elements (such as routers, switches, and hubs), their locations, and how they will be connected.

In telecom network design, engineers and technicians consider factors such as the size of the network, the type of communication (voice, data, or video), the amount of traffic that the network will need to handle, and the geographical layout of the area where the web will be deployed. The goal of telecom network design is to create a reliable and efficient telecommunications system that meets the needs of the users and the requirements of the organization.

Telecom network design may involve the use of computer-aided design (CAD) software such as AutoCAD to create detailed plans and diagrams of the network. These plans and diagrams are used to guide the deployment and maintenance of the network.

Customer Satisfaction

Testlify helps you identify the best talent from anywhere in the world, with a seamless experience that candidates and hiring teams love every step of the way.

1

5G network architecture

5G networks are expected to use a more flexible and scalable network architecture, with more decentralized and virtualized network functions, to support the high-bandwidth and low-latency requirements of new use cases such as connected cars and the Internet of Things (IoT).

2

5G security

5G networks are expected to have enhanced security features to protect against cyber threats, such as encryption of data in transit and secure authentication of devices.

3

5G network functions

Network functions in a 5G network may include core network elements such as the 5G core, base stations, and gateways, as well as virtualized network functions (VNFs) such as mobile edge computing (MEC) and network slicing.

4

5G call flows

Call flows refer to the sequence of events that occur during a call or data session in a telecom network. In a 5G network, call flows may involve additional steps or procedures related to the use of new technologies or network functions, such as handovers between different types of cells or network slicing to prioritize certain kinds of traffic.

The test is created by a subject-matter expert

Testlify’s skill tests are designed by experienced SMEs (subject matter experts). We evaluate these experts based on specific metrics such as expertise, capability, and their market reputation. Prior to being published, each skill test is peer-reviewed by other experts and then calibrated based on insights derived from a significant number of test-takers who are well-versed in that skill area. Our inherent feedback systems and built-in algorithms enable our SMEs to refine our tests continually.

What to listen for?

The candidate should be able to describe their process for designing a telecom network, including the different stages involved and how they approach each stage. They should be able to explain their methodology for gathering project requirements, assessing network capacity, and identifying potential network issues.

2. What tools and software do you use for telecom network design? Can you walk me through your experience with these tools?
Why this Matters?

Telecom network design requires the use of specialized software and tools for modeling and simulation. This question assesses the candidate’s knowledge of the different tools and software used for telecom network design and their experience with these tools.

What to listen for?

The candidate should be able to describe the different tools and software they use for telecom network design and explain their experience with these tools. They should be able to demonstrate their proficiency in using software like OSP Insight, MapInfo, or Google Earth, as well as their ability to use tools like spectrum analyzers and network analyzers.

3. Can you explain how you design a wireless network? What factors do you consider when designing a wireless network?
Why this Matters?

Wireless network design is a specialized area of telecom network design that requires a deep understanding of wireless technologies and protocols. This question assesses the candidate’s knowledge of wireless network design and their ability to identify and address potential issues.

What to listen for?

The candidate should be able to explain how they design a wireless network, including the different factors they consider, such as signal strength, network coverage, and interference. They should be able to explain how they use simulation software to model the wireless network and identify potential issues.

4. How do you ensure network reliability and resilience? What techniques do you use to prevent network downtime?
Why this Matters?

Network reliability and resilience are critical for ensuring uninterrupted service and avoiding costly downtime. This question assesses the candidate’s knowledge of network reliability and their ability to implement measures to prevent network downtime.

What to listen for?

The candidate should be able to explain how they ensure network reliability and resilience, including the different techniques they use to prevent network downtime, such as load balancing, redundancy, and failover. They should be able to give an example of a time when they implemented measures to prevent network downtime and how effective these measures were.

5. Can you describe your experience working with different telecom network protocols, such as TCP/IP, SONET, or MPLS? How have you used these protocols in network design?
Why this Matters?

Different telecom network protocols have different characteristics and are used for different purposes. This question assesses the candidate’s knowledge of different telecom network protocols and their ability to use these protocols in network design.

What to listen for?

The candidate should be able to describe their experience working with different telecom network protocols and explain how they have used these protocols in network design. They should be able to explain the characteristics of each protocol and how they are used in different parts of the network. They should also be able to give an example of a time when they used a protocol in network design and how effective it was.

Frequently Asked Questions for Telecom Network Design

Telecommunication network design has been going through a major upgrade in recent times. The new wider band 5G is required to support better connectivity and fast response. A telecom network design assessment is a review and evaluation of the existing telecom network design to determine if it meets the needs of the organization and its users.

Candidates with prior experience and knowledge of different network functions and call flows can attempt this test for identification as telecommunication network specialists. This test measures candidates’ ability to design and deal with 5G telecommunication systems and networks.
